Talk given during the THERMOGAMAS Workshop.

Abstract: We investigate various interactions between the codings of interval exchange transformations and the property of clustering for the Burrows-Wheeler transform, a lossless algorithm used in data compression. We state two main results linking these objects through a combinatorial property of languages we call the order condition; then we use this theory to answer some questions on the clustering of return words of interval exchanges, and on language related features distinguishing between standard and generalised interval exchange transformations.
